The 2022 West Nile Virus Season in Greece; A Quite Intense Season

چکیده
Since 2010, the West Nile virus (WNV) has been established in Greece. We describe epidemiology of diagnosed human WNV infections Greece with a focus on 2022 season. During transmission period, clinicians were sending samples from suspected cases for testing. Active laboratory-based surveillance was performed immediate notification cases. collected clinical information and interviewed patients timely basis to identify their place exposure. Besides serological molecular diagnostic methods, next-generation sequencing also performed. In 2022, 286 infection diagnosed, including 278 symptomatic 184 (64%) neuroinvasive disease (WNND); 33 died. This third most intense season concerning number WNND cases, following 2018 2010. Most (96%) recorded two regions, northern central The strain variant previous years, clustering into Central European subclade lineage 2. quite prompt diagnosis investigation are considered pivotal response, while availability whole genome sequences enables studies disease.

Optimal Control of West Nile virus in mosquito, birds and humans with Season
In Canada the number of West Nile virus (WNv) infection of humans decreasing during the years of 2007-2010. However, it started increasing once more during last year 2011 despite the immense efforts exhibited by the specialized agencies to control the vector mosquitoes and the disease. In this study, we use mathematical models to study the behavior of the transmission of WNv in the mosquito-bir...

متن کاملEarly-Season Avian Deaths from West Nile Virus as Warnings of Human Infection
An analysis of 2001 and 2002 West Nile virus (WNV) surveillance data shows that counties that report WNV-infected dead birds early in the transmission season are more likely to report subsequent WNV disease cases in humans than are counties that do not report early WNV-infected dead birds.
متن کاملDiverse host feeding on nesting birds may limit early-season West Nile virus amplification.
Arboviral activity tracks vector availability, which in temperate regions means that transmission ceases during the winter and must be restarted each spring. In the northeastern United States, Culex restuans Theobald resumes its activity earlier than Culex pipiens L. and is thought to be important in restarting West Nile virus (WNV) transmission. Its role in WNV amplification, however, is uncle...
متن کاملWest Nile Virus Circulation in Mosquitoes in Greece (2010–2013)
Background of the Study. Following a large West Nile virus (WNV) epidemic in Northern Greece in 2010, an active mosquito surveillance system was implemented, for a 3-year period (2011, 2012, and 2013). Description of the Study Site and Methodology. Using mainly CO2 mosquito traps, mosquito collections were performed. Samples were pooled by date of collection, location, and species and examined ...
